I ran live visuals for MC Lars at his show at The Gilman in Berkeley, CA on February 1st, 2025. I was asked to VJ his pre-existing content across two projection screens in innovative and immersive ways, varying from his usual mono projector display during performances. He also asked that I design creative and fun frames custom made for his content, animating them across the two screens.
I achieved these goals using Adobe Photoshop to create custom frames, Adobe After Effects to animate them, and loaded these assets into Resolume for final video output. In Resolume, I animated both video feeds cloning and bouncing from screen to screen.
For the live performance, I used a PC tower with two HDMI outputs running Resolume and a Korg nanoKONTROL 2 MIDI controller driving Resolume opacity and clip transition time settings. On a software level using Advanced Output, I mapped my double-wide project across the two projector screens for a seamless projection. Finally, I ran NestDrop Midnight Edition for a live, audio-reactive layer of animation, launched from within Resolume.
At first, I made it seem like the two screens were simply clones of one another. During the third song, I started to reveal that the two screens were connected. Each song had its own discrete set of effects, frames, and animations. It was important to create a narrative arc visually with a beginning, middle, and end.
